João Tavares de Pina has spent the last thirty years restoring the granitic Quinta da Boavista, his ancestral family home, after it was abandoned for large parts of the 20th Century. He uses simple, traditional methods (the same as his father employed), with an adherence to organic and low intervention practices. The wine he produces is exquisite.
Rufia, when translated to English, means 'ruffian' or 'bad ass'. It's an apt name for a wine made with freedom of expression and a winemaker following only his own rules.
